Plot: The Third Eye 2 (Mata Batin 2) is the follow-up of 2017 Indonesian flick 'The Third Eye'. In this movie, Alia (played by Jessica Mila) tries to use the power of her third eye to connect with a spirit named Mirah, but for some reason, there was a blockage in their communication. Alia now works in an orphanage owned by Mr. Fadli and his wife, Mrs.Laksmi (played by Jeremy Thomas and Sophia Latjuba). The orphanage has 16 girls in total, and one of them seems a bit weird—Nadia (played by Nabilah Ratna Ayu Azalia). The only person Nadi connects with is Alia, and we can all guess why—she too has her third eye open and can communicate with the spirits of the other world.

At first, Mrs. Laksmi accused Nadia of damaging the beds, furniture and other property of the orphanage but eventually, comes face-to-face with the ultimate truth. Alia helps Nadia to control her power and use it for a greater purpose. With time, she too understands that there was something wicked haunting the orphan and uses her third eye to uncover the truth. She finds out that the house was haunted by a child who is consumed by hatred and evil. The rest of the movie is about how Alia connects the dots to reach to the root of the matter and protects the orphanage.

Review: Unlike its first part, Mata Batin 2 failed to impress the audience. Even though Rocky Soraya’s direction was stunning, the story didn’t do justice to it. It was stretched for two hours for pretty much no reason making the audience yawn in boredom than scream in horror. The background noises added to irritation than infusing fear. The storyline was quite repetitive but still, a few parts in the film attracted attention and instilled fear.

If you have watched The Third Eye, chances are that this movie will not be up to your expectations. That said, we’d recommend all of you to watch the first movie before you watch this one. However, if you are watching this movie first, you might enjoy it. The intense fans of horror might get disappointed. For those who watch horror for the sole reason of entertaining themselves, this one is for you.

On the acting part, everyone did justice to their roles. Jessica, as always, impressed with her work. Bianca Hello, as Abel, also made a guest appearance in the film, and a significant one. Overall, the film is just like an average horror film that movie fans gulp down their throat for the sake of watching it.
