Indian Journalist Ravish Kumar has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for the year 2019. He is among the five recipients of Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019. He is a Senior Executive Editor at NDTV India.  He has been awarded for his ethical journalism, professional commitment, moral courage, etc. The citation for the award described Ravish as a well-informed anchor one of most influential TV journalists of India.

Ravish was appreciated for raising his voice for the under-reported issues of the society and for being vocal in the time when media is threatened by different groups.

Other four winners are Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from Philippines and Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand.

Last year, two Indians, Bharat Vatwani and Sonam Wangchuk received the Raman Magsaysay Award 2018.

Ravish Kumar was born in Jitwarpur village in Bihar. He joined New Delhi Television Network (NDTV) in 1996. He was given his own daily show named “Prime Time” on NDTV India. NDTV India was the 24-hour Hindi-language news channel launched by NDTV. The program deals with real-life problem of people.

Raman Magsaysay Award is an annual award which was established in the year 1957. The award is given for outstanding performance in respective fields of the individuals or organisations. The award recognizes the "greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia". It is also regarded as the Nobel Prize of Asia.

The award was named after Ramon Magsaysay who was the third president of Philippines after World War II.
