There is no doubt that alcohol and cigarette both are harmful to our health. However, along with this, we also cannot deny the fact that so many people are suffering because of second-hand drinking.

The irony is – second-hand smoke harms a lot medically, but second-drinking makes the behaviour of partners delinquent. They often go out of their control and even commit crimes.

Now you must be wondering why we are so sure about this? Well, studies have been going on considering this issue. A scientist of Indian-origin has recently warned about this.

Apart from that scientist, an analysis of US national survey data itself explains that almost 53 million adults are facing harmful experiences because of this habit.

Some of the potential harms include threats, harassment, vandalism, driving accident, physical aggression, financial or family issues. Among all these harms, threats or harassment are the most common ones as reported by 16 percent of survey respondents said in a research that was led by Madhabika B. Nayak of the Alcohol Research Group, which was established in 2002.

Most of the women were facing the financial and family troubles while men reported that physical aggression, damage of property and physical aggression is the real cause behind their issues.

In addition to such studies and surveys, there is one more report that illustrates that half of men and women who themselves are well-experienced drinkers tend to get harmed by those with whom they share drinks.

Nayak has proposed some great ways to put a full stop on such promoting behaviour of alcohol. She said, “We can control policies, such as taxation, reduced availability of alcohol, putting a restriction on its promotion by any means, and it’s pricing. These can be the best ways to reduce not only alcohol consumption but also its promotion among those fellows who don’t drink at all.”
