One applies for a job based on her skill set and qualification. In a country like India, we often see that there are hundreds of people applying for a particular post. While most of them have a similar skill set and experience, how you present yourself makes all the difference. Body language, dressing sense and make up all play a deciding role here. Now while most people know a thing or two about body language, they seem to be at a loss about what sort of makeup to go for.

The most important thing to remember while applying to make up for interviews is that you must not overdo it. That often gives you off as someone who is fake and does not have any real substance. At the same time, going completely make up free might make you look pale and under-confident. The recruiters might feel that you are not serious about the job and that is why you are not making sufficient effort. To get over this dilemma and strike a balance, we have some tips and tricks to help you through.

Foundation

You may wear a liquid or powder foundation based on your preference. The key here is identifying the shade that complements your skin tone. Visit the nearest makeup store and ask the salesperson to help you pick up a shade that disappears into your skin. Please note that if you are not used to applying the foundation do not try that on the day of the interview. The day of the interview is not a good time to experiment with any type of new makeup product. If you are not used to the foundation, a tinted moisturizer would work just as fine. This would ensure that you do not feel anything different from your comfort zone but will give you proper light coverage.

Concealer

Most women have skin issues that they would rather not show someone at their first meeting. These may range from black spots and acne marks to blemishes. In such cases, the use of a concealer is recommended. Choose an appropriate shade and dab it on the exact spot. Once done, you may want to use a little bit of powder to help it set in. If you have dark circles or a general look of tiredness on the eyes, opt for a corrector to cover those up. At any job interview, it is of paramount importance that you do not turn up looking exhausted.

Blush

Many women tend getting flushed when they are nervous. A job interview is expected to put you in a tense situation and you must keep that under consideration when using the blush. It is better that you use shades that are lighter than your usual blush on the day of the job interview. It will also be wise to consider using a green-tinted primer before putting on the makeup. This will take care of the redness that may arise due to you getting nervous and blood rushing down your cheeks.

Eyeliner

In a job interview, your eyes will do most of the talking and you must use some eyeliner to make them stand out. Do not experiment with shades of the eyeliner and stick to the conventional black. Avoid using liquid eyeliner. The pencil liner is more efficient in giving you a single stroke finish that is ideal for an interview. If you feel that a softer look suits you better, you may also choose to smudge the stroke a little bit.

Mascara

While the mascara helps you define your eyes, you mustn't look like you have just returned from a hectic night out. The best way to ensure that your mascara is not clumsy is to use a tissue to wipe off the extra liquid off its brush before application. If your mascara tends getting smudged, you should give it a miss on the day of the interview. Also, these days there are many coloured mascaras available in the market. Those look very unprofessional and should not be experimented with on the day of the job interview.

Eye shadow

This is an optional step in your make up for a job interview. If you are using an eye shadow make sure that you stick to natural shades and are not too bright. Understand that you are not heading to a party and avoid any form of glitter on the eyelids. For a sophisticated and professional look, try to cut down the shimmer on your overall makeup.

Lipstick

This is the last, and perhaps the most important step, in your make up for a job interview. Understand that a job interview often involves multiple rounds and lasts for hours at end. You may not have the scope to touch upon your lipstick and that is why you must pick up one from the long-lasting range. Also, the choice of shades is equally important. Try to get for nude shades in matt finish as they make one look professional and will help you cast a good first impression on the day of your interview. Under no situation should you apply a lip gloss to the job interview.

With these makeup tips, you will look professional for your job interview. Psychologists have found a correlation between looking good and feeling more confident. So now that you are empowered with both of it go ahead and ace the interview to bag the job of your dreams!
