Plot: A woman returns from combat and befriends a family in NYC. A gang of thieves plot to take the family's valuables, and she is all that stands between them and their lives.

ReviewStarring Rose as former U.S. Marine Ali Gorsky, ‘The Doorman’ begins with a flashback to the American Embassy in Bucharest, Romania where the Sergeant fails to protect a diplomat and her daughter from international terrorists.

While transporting the family through a clearing in the woods, the cargo comes under attack from all sides, the cars flipping and burning. One week later, Gorsky wakes up in New York City, alone, unemployed, and scarred.

The film explores Gorksy’s psyche and establishes her as a tough person with the PTSD she is clearly experiencing as a result of her distress in Romania. It is evident how much thought and care were put into Gorksy’s character. However, the genre and the movie keep fighting each other. There is no thrill as there is no newness.

The Doorman is predictable from its very first frame. Critics have compared that- The Doorman mimics a lot of the classic’s more memorable beats- even the elevator doors closing on Reno’s villain is similar to that of the wonderful shot of Hans Gruber and his henchmen as they ascend in Die Hard.

The trailer will itself give you the touch of the heroic, high deed performing feel in the movie. It has all the elements of a typical action thriller: Characters use rocket launchers, assault rifles, guns, knives, blunt objects. The lead character makes a makeshift bomb with nails, killing one of the bad guys, resulting in blood splatter. Characters shot and killed at close range. Stabbing in the throat. Electrocution. Teen boy smokes marijuana in his room, is high while seated with his family at Easter dinner.

The movie is entertaining; just nothing new!
