New Mexico's First Nido Opens in Albuquerque
Montessori ONE Academy

ALBUQUERQUE: Montessori ONE Academy, the only Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) school in Albuquerque, is scheduled to celebrate its extensive campus expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 4pm at its Northeast Heights location. The ceremony is open to the public and will be co-hosted by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. Montessori ONE, which already has well-established preschool and elementary programs, will provide tours of their new infant program facility-- New Mexico's first Nido (pronounced nee-doe). The Nido, meaning "nest" in Italian, is the Montessori Method's unique answer to infant day care and will be one of only 16 recognized Nido programs in the United States.

"Returning to work is something many new parents must contend with after the birth of a child. Choosing the right child-care provider for their infant can be an emotional and daunting task. We understand that and designed a nurturing, world-class environment that inspires confidence and calm in parents and infants alike." - Tina Patel, Founder/Director | Montessori ONE Academy

The Nido will serve infants six weeks through walking before the children progress to the Preschool program. The Nido's modern design features high-end furnishings, lots of natural light, private rooms for mothers to nurse or express, and open space for infants to explore under the guidance of their caregivers. The infant to caregiver ratio will be three to one and enrollment is limited. Montessori ONE Academy reports that the infant program is almost full.

The campus expansion also includes expanded edible, organic gardens, while an outdoor classroom, outdoor kitchen, and expanded playgrounds with award-winning equipment round out the new amenities.

The Nido building will also house the Montessori ONE Teacher Training Institute (MOTTI). MOTTI is New Mexico's only AMI training program operating in partnership with Southwest Institute of Montessori Studies and Indigenous Montessori Institute.
