Mumbai: A 50-year-old history-sheeter, wanted in a case of robbery in Gujarat, was arrested in Mumbai's Malad suburb in the early hours of Thursday, police said.

Unit 10 of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Sudhir Shinde, the accused, when he arrived in Pathanwadi area in Malad to meet his aides, an official said.

He was wanted in a robbery allegedly committed by a gang of 14 persons at Patan in Gujarat on August 13, the official added.

Shinde and others allegedly attacked an `angadia' (courier) in a crowded place in broad daylight and looted gold and diamond jewelry and Rs 6.64 lakh cash that he was carrying.

While escaping they ran into a team of local police and opened fire, the official added.

The Crime Branch received information that Shinde, who hails from suburban Jogeshwari, was going to arrive in Malad on Thursday, so a trap was laid and he was nabbed, said senior police inspector Sunil Mane.

During interrogation he allegedly confessed to being involved in at least 15 serious offences including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and robbery in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Gujarat, Mane said.

Shinde was handed over to Gujarat Police for further investigation, the official said.
