Mumbai: Maharashtra School Education minister Varsha Gaikwad on Monday announced that the offline state board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 have now been postponed to June and May-end respectively.

Amid the alarming rise of coronavirus cases in the state, students and parents had been demanding that exams be canceled or held online for this academic year, keeping in mind the risk of students getting infected. "Given the current COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra, we’ve postponed state board exams for Class 10 and 12. The present circumstances are not conducive for holding exams. Your health is our priority," Gaikwad tweeted.

In a video message, she said that making a note of the competitive entrance exams, the Class 12 offline board exams will be conducted by May-end and the Class 10 board exams will be in June.
