Heavy rainfall leads to water-lodging, traffic jams in several parts of Mumbai

Mumbai rains have picked up the pace today and the city has been witnessing heavy showers since morning. It is predicted that the city will continue to face such rains for few upcoming days.

Several parts of Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts in Maharashtra, such as Mulund, Dadar, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, parts of Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, Virar, Borivali, and Badlapur witnessed heavy rains. In the last 24 hours, Andheri recorded 83 mm of rain, Andheri East 76 mm, Borivali 54 mm, Powai 68 mm, Santa Cruz 62 mm, Vikhroli 55 mm, Marine Line 83 mm, Mulund West 53 mm, Bandra 41 mm.

The heavy rainfall has caused water-lodging in low-lying areas of Andheri and Chembur, with many commuters stranded on these water logged roads due to heavy traffic congestion.

Heavy traffic jam in Powai

As per the India Meteorological Department, rains are expected to continue throughout the day today, and will become heavy to very heavy during the later part of the day. Sky will remain cloudy the entire day with no sign of sunshine as rains would continue to pick up the pace over the city. Mumbai, suburban areas, Thane and adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy rains and may receive over 200mm during the next 48 hours.

The local trains services are affected on Central and Harbour lines due to the heavy rains in Mumbai and are running 15-20 minutes behind the scheduled time on Central and Harbour lines. Services on the Western line, however remained unaffected.

Diversion: Due to Metro work & water lodging BEST buses diverted from

1) National College to Bandra Talkies.

2) Sion Rd  No. 24 diverted via Laxmibai Kelkar Marg, Sion Rd  No.3

3) Hindmata diverted via Hindmata Flyover

4) Sewari Marg (Bus No.213,212.40) diverted via Mumbai Marathi Granthalaya Marg

 

Bus Diversion

Buses with route no. 25, 22,302,305 and 213 have been diverted through Main Road due to water lodging at Sion, Road no. 24.

Buses on BEST route no. 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 21 are diverted through Hindmata Bridge due to water lodging at Hindmata cinema in Dadar. Also, buses going to Sewree are diverted through Sharda talkies.

 

Water lodging

1) Water lodging at Makhmali Talao Thane.

Route no 494 and 499 are diverted through Vandana Tokies (Thane) flyover.

2) Water lodging at Sion, Road no 24.

Route no 25,22,302,305 and 213 are diverted through Main Road.

3) Water lodging at Hindmata Cinema Dadar.
