If it showers on your dreams, learn to protect it, and then embrace the wet mess which will soon clear out.

Traveling can be a soothing experience at any given season. Be it to escape the summer heat of the plains, the chilling cold of the plateau and hills, or the jarring waves on the sea-side during monsoon, travelling is almost a way to get away from the unsuitability of weather and move to a place with seemingly better condition. However, sometimes due to some unexpected change in the atmosphere an uncalled for shower of rain might just ruin your holiday that you had booked for, and instead you find yourself in a situation from where there is no escaping.

There might be chances that during your trips, when you are carrying absolutely no equipment to help you protect yourself from the rain, you are stuck in a heavy downpour. Hence, to keep yourself on the safe side in such situations here are the top four things that you can do while travelling:

  1. Always be Prepared - When travel blogger, Patrícia Cuní, was on her trip in Ljubljana, Slovenia, she was caught in a heavy downpour during one of her visits to the city’s medieval castle. She had to walk all the way back to her hotel, completely drenched, and her clothes would take days to dry. The only possible thing to do to avoid such mishaps is to be prepared. Mother Nature is beautiful as much as she is unpredictable, so the next time you pack your bags it might be a good idea to put in rain jacket or poncho, an umbrella, boot covers, and do not forget to cover your bag in a plastic just to keep your belongings neat and dry.

  1. Take It Inside - Even when you are busy travelling around new places of the world, there are a lot of things which can be done indoors. Perhaps when nature blocks your way outside, it is a good idea to make the call and begin enjoying inside. It can be depressing but utilize this time to explore some local eatery, spend time with the locals who run those eateries, and maybe spend a few hours just reading by yourself in the calmness of a library. Exploring the insides of a particular town are really a great way to get to know a place that you have never visited before.

  1. Have a Flexible Itinerary- Since you are a traveller and not a tourist, it might be a good idea to not live by the book because that is the difference between a backpacker and a trolley-puller. If you have your days completely planned out, chances are you will be left devastated when the rain begins to pour down in heavy weight. So keep flexible itineraries, one that can be adjusted with in case there is some kind of mishap happening. Keep a day or two completely unplanned when you can go absolutely turbo with spontaneity that way if it rains on the day you had planned; you don’t have to worry about not having the time to do the things you wanted to do.

  1. Embrace It - You are a traveller and the world is your home. Now things can go wrong at home, and sometimes all you can do is sit and wait for the storm to pass. If it is raining and there is nothing you can do about it, enjoy it. Rain itself is a personal experience that we humans unlike fellow neighbouring creatures find extremely appealing. Imagine watching the sky break down when you are in some remote hill-station or the waves suddenly begin their own dance when you are walking by the beach of some strange country. It is okay if it rains, it all only adds up to the experience.
