Despite of all the good things, monsoon does bring along certain health risks due to the sudden weather change. Moreover, the rains can also bring all sorts of germs that could cause infections and diseases.

Therefore, to prevent yourself from falling ill firstly ensure not to consume unhygienic food and water, and follow a healthy diet, to improve immunity.

Check out some foods here that you should avoid during the monsoon.

1. Leafy Vegetables

Say no to vegetables like spinach, cabbage and cauliflower this season. Yes, they are good and healthy, but not during the monsoons. Since markets get muddy, and the weather is humid, green leafy vegetables are prone to bacterial infections due to the grime and dampness present in them.

Therefore, switch to vegetables like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, tinda (Indian squash), and pointed gourd.

2. Sea Food

Monsoon is the breeding season for fish and prawns so they are best to be avoided during this time of the year. Stick to chicken and mutton to satiate your craving for the non-vegetarian food.

However, if it is absolutely essential to have seafood, then make sure to only consume the freshest variety of it and prefer to buy whole fish rather than fillets as it would be easy to check the fish's freshness.

3. Carbonated Drinks

Carbonated drinks reduce the mineral levels in our body and also reduce the enzyme activity which could lead to indigestion. Hence, it is better to avoid them, especially during the monsoons.

Rather drink warm beverages such as ginger tea and drink more water as sweat does not evaporate quickly in the monsoons which prevents the body from releasing heat. Therefore, keep a bottle of boiled water handy.

4. Raw Food

Make sure you wash fruits thoroughly before you consume them. Cut them right before you want to eat them so that the chances of germs are less.

And instead of eating raw vegetables, it is best to boil them or steam them before eating as monsoon makes it more risky to eat raw food; this is because the chances of germs and infection are high.

5. Mushrooms

Another vegetable that you should consider avoiding in the rain is the mushrooms. Mushrooms grow in damp soil and have to be cleaned properly before they are eaten.

Therefore, the risk of infection and bacterial growth on them is much higher in the monsoon which makes them to this list.

6. Dairy Products

One would think how could milk, the ever refreshing and one of the richest and easiest sources of energy be harmful in the monsoon season? Well it surely can be. As dairy products perish at a faster rate when the weather is humid, and can easily turn bad.

Hence, consume only warm milk and make sure to double check any milk-based products before consuming them.

7. Street Food

It's better to stay away from street foods. Especially kulfis, pani-puris and golas should be a strict no-no.

As if the food isn't covered from the rain, flies and dust and if the water being used is contaminated, you might suffer from diarrhoea.

8. Fried Food

Fried food is one of those food items you should absolutely avoid during rainy season as the highly humid monsoon weather causes the digestion process to slow down.

However irresistible the pakodas and samosas may seem, they could cause complications like bloating and stomach upset
