The Apereo Foundation has announced the release of openEQUELLA 2020.2, the latest version of the open-source platform.

PRINCETON, N.J.: openEQUELLA, a digital repository for housing teaching/learning, research, media, and library content in one platform, is currently in use at a wide range of schools, universities, colleges, TAFEs, departments of education, government agencies, and corporations worldwide.

openEQUELLA 2020.2 is the largest release of the platform since its transition to open source, and the highlights include the introduction of a New Search UI and major dependency upgrades. The New Search UI has been built using Material UI components and represents a significant enhancement and modernisation to both the back and front end of openEQUELLA. Numerous external code libraries have been upgraded in 2020.2, including Tomcat, HikariCP, Spring, and Hibernate. These upgrades aim to create a more secure application, bringing together the efforts of various open source communities as they improve their libraries that openEQUELLA leverages.

Other highlights of openEQUELLA 2020.2 include:

  • Further refinement of the default theme
  • Further enhancements to the modern openEQUELLA Blackboard integration
  • Bug fixes
