Assam Girl, Rodali wins Gold in Indian Open International Taekwondo Championship

Rodali Baruha from Tezpur, Assam is the newest pride of the nation. In the recently held 2nd edition of Indian Open International Taekwondo, she won a gold medal.

Rodali, who holds the world rank of 86 in the martial art has been practicing taekwondo from a very young age. She participated in her first taekwondo tournament when she was in 8th standard.

Since then, this little champion has represented India in various national and international events such as 35th National Senior Kyorugi, 8th National Senior Pumche Taekwondo Championships, Vishakhapatnam, and World Summer University Games, China. She won a gold medal in both National Senior Kyorugi and National Senior Pumche Taekwondo Championships.

She also represented her country at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. She also participated in the World Taekwondo Championships in Korea in June 2017. She was also set to participate in the recently held World Taekwondo Championship in Manchester. She was selected to represent India along with Dipika Hazarika, a fellow taekwondo player. However, due to visa issues, they couldn’t participate in the event.

Her hard work and dedication at such a young age has clearly contributed in her success. She is also a district champion. She is ranked 1 on national level. Her rank is 17 on Asian level.Rodali’s parents, Anupam Baruah and Runa Baruah, beam with pride as they watch their daughter climbing the ladder of success at such a young age.

Before her performance at the Hyderabad even, Rodali said, "I have recently participated in the Jakarta Asian games and after that, it is the next big platform that I'm going to perform in. It's going to be a great competition and going to give us a great experience. Competing with these countries gives us proper exposure to Taekwondo.”

The event, which took place at Balayogi International Stadium at Gachibowli, Hyderabad, was inaugurated by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs V. Srinivas Goud in mid-June. The motive of this event was to promote taekwondo in the country. Players from 25 countries, including America, Australia, Japan, and Korea participated in the prestigious event.

In recent times, India has paid quite an attention to martial arts event. For those who are interested, there are a few taekwondo tournaments set to take place later this year--1st Late. Sh. D. C. Malik Taekwondo Championship 2019, Chandigarh and Belagavi District Taekwondo Championship 2019, and Karnataka and 1st Udaipur Cup Taekwondo Championship-2019 are a few of them.
