Making India Awesome: New Essays and Columns’ by Chetan Bhagat is a book that showers light on India’s most obstinate snags—unemployment, violence, poverty, discrimination against women, religious fundamentalism, illiteracy, and communal violence.
This is the first time Chetan Bhagat, has tried his hand at writing non-fictional contents with 'Making India Awesome’ which is a collection of essays that discusses some of the most prevalent problems prevailing in India.
It is yet another book of essays in which Bhagat analyses and provides inspired solutions to the country’s most intractable problems. Using simple language and concepts, this book will enable you to understand the most complex of problems facing the nation today and give practical solutions on how you can do your part to solve them.
Starting with a note on his journey, the book is strategically divided into four parts i.e., Our Society, Politics, Our Youth and Two stories. Giving practical suggestion on how to solve the problem, Bhagat also gives suggestions on how the youth of India can give their bit in solving these problems. There are practical and "do-able" suggestions. One may not agree with all that has been written but the author makes one think and in a positive direction. The author urges the readers:
"The country needs you"
He also comes up with statements like "Society needs ethics as much as laws to function well". Though criticises all the chains that have shackled the economy, he talks of "reining the MNCs for they seem to have little ethics".
The author makes a case for using Roman script to write Hindi, instead of the usual Devnagari one. He talks about how languages have evolved with time, and similar changes have happened elsewhere. The argument is actually convincing.
It covers almost all issues India is facing with the usual Chetan Bhagat's writing style which makes this book even more worthy. Bhagat has succeeded in presenting all of it in simple words so even a beginner can try this one.
Written using simple language and concept, the book aims to make the readers understand the most complex problems that the nation is facing today.
