• The VLJ combines the best elements of two existing technologies conventional fixed pitch propellers and water jets.
• Offering low noise, low vibration and high efficiency over a wide speed range while reducing the vessel's draft to a minimum, it is ideal for use on yachts, workboats, ferries and patrol vessels.
• The award was based on the advancement and innovation of technology for use in the yachting industry.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States: The International Superyacht Society (ISS) honored the Voith Linear Jet (VLJ) with the society’s Technology Award. The ISS award is presented annually to honor a “demonstrated advancement” to the yachting industry.

“The VLJ is the ideal propulsion system for yachts that want a bit more than the standard 18 knots without the drawbacks of highly loaded propellers that increase draft and introduce shake, rattle and roll on the boat. Low noise & vibrations with high-efficiency, shallow draft and a steady comfortable ride is what the Voith Linear Jet delivers,” said Johan Huber, product specialist, Voith Turbo EMEA.

Beyond its use in yachts, the VLJ offers wide utility as a propulsion system for a number of marine applications including in crew-transfer vessels where it can be used in the wind-farm industry and on fast ferries to increase their efficiency and availability. In naval or coast guard vessels, an array of duties including defense and piracy control, environmental patrol, fishery inspection, anti-smuggling, search and rescue and humanitarian relief missions can demand propulsion systems that support any speed up to 40 knots effective and efficiently.

“It was an honor for Voith to have the VLJ recognized by the ISS. The customers with VLJs in operation have been extremely satisfied by their performance, and we are proud to have this available for the marine market.”
Ivo Beu, Director of Sales, Marine Americas, Voith Turbo

The Technology Award was presented at the 2019 ISS Gala in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
