Puducherry: Puducherry witnessed a marginal dip in number of new coronavirus cases with 213 infections being reported on Friday.

The union territory on Thursday registered 221 cases.

The overall caseload now stands at 1,68,487.

Director of Health G Sriramulu in a bulletin said fresh cases surfaced during examination of 2,240 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 am today.

Puducherry region alone reported 174 fresh cases out of the total 213 cases followed by 36 in Karaikal , two in Yanam and one in Mahe region.

The active cases were 1,048 as against 1,016 cases reported on Thursday.

The Director said while 12 of the 1,048 patients who tested positive during examination of 2,240 samples were taking treatment in hospitals, the remaining 1,036 patients in home quarantine.

Sriramulu said the Health Department has so far tested 23,17,322 samples and out of them, 19,59,771 were found to be negative.

The Director said 181 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and the overall recoveries were 1,65,477.

There was no fresh fatality on Friday and the death toll remained at 1,962.

The test positivity rate was 9.51 per cent while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.16 per cent and 98.21 per cent, respectively.

The Health Department has so far administered 17,59,665 doses which comprised 9,73,959 first doses, 7,45,431 second doses and 40,275 booster doses, the Director said.
