Plot: Kabir Singh is a remake of a Telugu movie Arjun Reddy (2017), where a, brilliant, young final year medico with anger management issues, Kabir (Shahid Kapoor) falls in love at first sight with Preeti (Kiara advani) who is stark contrast to everything he is.

This brilliant young man whose only issue is anger goes into a self-destructive spiral by getting addicted to drugs and drinks after his girlfriend is forced to marry another man.

Review: Shahid plays the role of a modern day Devdas, who is aggressive, obsessive and would go to any extreme for his girl. It is only because of Shahid’s strong performance which is far stretched from being the 'picture perfect lover boy', with characters like womanizing, drug addiction, alcoholism and brash male toxicity seem justified. He has completely surrendered himself to the extremism of Kabir Singh and played it with brutal honesty. A word of advice for everyone, Shahid's character is not to be idolised.

In terms of screen space, for most part, Kiara remains reserved and is left to use silence as her only tool for performance. Whereas Shahid’s trusted friend gets ample opportunity to show solid support and he manages to be the sunshine in a world that keeps getting darker for Kabir (Shahid).

The film’s second half starts becomes repetitive and the pace of the film becomes an issue with a runtime that is undeniably long. And for the starters, there is a lot of sexism and misogyny in the film.

It’s through the different looks of Shahid’s character, the brash attitude, the short-tempered persona to the dialogue delivery, he nails it. There is no false note in his performance and is for sure, as of now, the top contender for every acting award for the year. Even the film’s music compliments the narrative with its soulful renditions in the background and deserves a special mention.

Overall, Kabir Singh is an entertaining and engaging film with melodious music and brilliant performances.
