The movie picks up a case that was highly condemned in the Indian law system where it discriminated between the minors and no justice was served.

Two Dalit girls went missing on the evening of May 26, 2014, in Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh. Later, their bodies were found hanging from a tree and it was soon reported the girls, who were cousins, were gang raped and killed. Five men were accused of the crime, and one suspect was arrested after a few more days. However, even sooner the case was dismissed by the CBI claiming there has been no evidence of rape and a tag of 'honor-killing' was neatly garlanded around the case. This is the premise which serves as the backdrop to Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming movie, ‘Article 15’.

B.R.Ambedkar’s Constitution clearly states in Article 15 that any kind of discrimination based on religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth is strictly prohibited. It further mentions, “The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them.” It also emphasizes on the fact that no citizen will be “subject to any disability, liability, restriction or condition.” This is the clarion call of the movie which released its trailer a few hours back, and as we revisit the battle against social evils, here’s everything you need to know about ‘Article 15’:

Release Date: The movie is set to release on June 28.

Plot: Picking up the infamous 2014 gang rape case, the tagline of the movie reads as, “Faarq Bahut Kar Liya Ab Faarq Layenge”. The plot follows a determined and sensitive police officer who finds himself amid an ongoing squabble between the powerful and the powerless. In a society which has always been focused on discrimination, the officer tries to mend things by living by the book something which his nation’s men have long given up. As he begins to investigate the gang rape of two young girls in Badaun he realizes the Constitution is only being treated as a namesake and not being valued for its immense moral consciousness.

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest venture into Bollywood sees him dressed as a cop as he tries to solve the criminal society around him. His latest thriller ‘Andhadhund’ which is now streaming on Netflix saw him pose as a blind musician who unwillingly gets tangled in a secretive murder mystery after the sudden death of an old-time movie star. Khurrana has time and again portrayed himself as a man wearing a hat of feathers as he has also served the purpose of a background singer in several movies which includes his first big screen debut ‘Vicky Donor’.

Khurrana will be joined by Isha Talwar who is best known for predominantly working in Malayalam cinema. She made her Bollywood debut quite recently when she starred alongside Saif Ali Khan in the 2018 movie, ‘Kaalakaandi’. The movie will also star another fresh face Sayani Gupta who has already charmed the audience with her onscreen role as Khanum opposite Kalki Koechlin in ‘Margarita with a Straw’. She is also starring the Anu Menon directed webseries, ‘Four More Shots Please!’ which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The rest of the cast includes Kumud Mishra, Namashi Chakraborty, Manoj Pahwa, and Nassar.

Trailer: The trailer gives a brief reflection into Ayushmann Khurrana’s character, who is the lead figure in the story. As a police with a strong moral code, he is embarrassed at how much the society wants to live with discrimination and in his attempt to find a solution he turns to the Constitution to find the truth.
