Chandigarh: The Haryana police on Wednesday said they have arrested two criminals figuring in the "most wanted" lists of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh police.

The criminals were apprehended near a village in Jhajjar district after a brief exchange of fire on Wednesday, said police adding, two country-made pistols, seven live cartridges and a motorcycle were also recovered from them.

A police spokesperson said the arrested accused were identified as Sanam Dagar alias Sonu, a resident of Samaspur Khalsa, Delhi and Ibrahim alias Cheeku, a resident of Bawana in Delhi.

During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that about 21 cases of murder, attempt to murder, loot and extortion were registered against them in Delhi, UP, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana," he said.

Both were arrested on a secret information from near Jassaur Kheri village in Jhajjar district, he said.

On a tip off, the police laid a trap near Jassaur Kheri village in Jhajjar district, the spokesperson said, adding as the police team spotted the duo coming towards them on a motorcycle, they signalled them to stop.

On being challenged, the pillion rider opened fire on the police, which returned fire, he said.

In the melee, the bike they were riding slipped and they fell down, prompting the police to overpower and arrest therm.

A case has been registered against the duo and further investigation is on, he said.
