Steep fall in number of fresh COVID-19 cases in Pondy

Puducherry: Puducherry reported a steep fall in fresh COVID-19 cases as only nine people were affected by the virus on Monday, a health bulletin stated.

With the fresh cases, the overall tally in the Union Territory went up to 1,66,832.

The UT had registered 97 fresh cases on Sunday.

In a press release, Director of Health G Sriramulu said the nine new cases surfaced during examination of 476 samples. There were 501 active cases which comprised 10 patients in hospitals and the remaining 491 patients recovering in home quarantine.

The Director said 21 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and overall recoveries were 1,64,369.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam and the death toll remained unchanged at 1,962.

The test positivity rate was 1.89 per cent while fatality and recovery rates were 1.18 per cent and 98.52 per cent respectively, the Director said.

Sriramulu said the health department has tested 22,95,847 samples so far and found 19,39,323 samples out of them to be negative.

The health department has administered 17,45,647 doses which comprised 9,72,197 first doses, 7,40,752 second doses and 32,698 booster doses.
