Pune: The Pune police on Tuesday arrested six people linked with the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political wing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), an official said.

All six members were arrested under section 151 (3) (Arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences) of the CrPC. They were released on bail by a local court later in the day.

"The court released them on the bail but ordered them to stay out of Pune city till October 5," said Sardar Patil, senior inspector, Kondhwa police station.

He said the preventive action under the CrPc section 151(3) has been taken against the backdrop of the recent crackdown on the PFI by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

"We detained and later arrested the six people linked with the PFI and SDPI from the Kondhwa area in Pune city on Tuesday morning as part of maintaining law and order," he added.

The Pune Police's action comes on a day when more than 170 people allegedly linked with the PFI were detained or arrested in raids across seven states, five days after a similar pan-India crackdown against the group often accused of being linked to radical Islam.
