Google Pixel 4 users has issues of Face Unlock failure

Four users of Google Pixel seem to have issues with Face Unlock, wherein the phone is unable to recognize their faces. For some users, even with their face data already enrolled a notification to re-register their face is appearing. People approached Google Forum as well as Reddit to complain about the Face Unlock issue on Pixel 4.

A Reddit user said that the Face Unlock stopped working suddenly in his Pixel 4. He was also unable to delete his face unlock data in settings as he kept constantly getting message that read, “Cannot verify face.” Some users also receive a message, “Can’t verify face. Hardware not available.” For other users, the issue appeared after the security update of January. Due to this, the user kept receiving a message after the update that face unlock might stop working and re-enrollment was needed. However, Face Unlock was unfunctional even after the user re-enrolled face data. The display message, “Can’t verify face. Try Again,” was popping up frequently.

Factory reset option seems to have worked out for some users, however, Face Unlock continued to display error for others even after a factory reset. The issue does not seem to have resolved even after resetting the smartphone in safe mode.

So far, Google does not seem to be aware of the issues regarding the Face Unlock on Pixel 4 as the company has not announced officially to fix the problem. Meanwhile, the users can use the option of password, PIN or pattern for authentication.

Face Unlock feature was highlighted as the USP of Pixel 4. The pixel 4 uses Soli to unlock the phone instantly as the user picks it up, Google said in its blog post. The feature can also work in almost any orientation, that means users could be able to unlock the device even if they are holding it upside down.
