Google is working closely on Valve, the world’s largest video game distribution platform, meant to bring popular PC games store Steam to Chromebooks. The Steam support could be enabled on Chrome OS, revealed by Kan Liu, Director of Product Management for Chrome OS, according to a report from Android Police.

Liu did not disclose when Google plans to launch to bring Steam to Chrome OS nor any confirmation from Valve. However, it seems that Google is in talks with Valve to bring the Steam game store to Chrome OS. This is possible because Chrome OS now supports Linux apps. Let’s not forget that Steam has a Linux client and sells Linux games.

Chromebooks are seen as cost-effective to Windows PCs. They are well-liked in the US, as many schools opt for Chromebooks over Windows laptops. However, the fact remains that ChromeOS is a less popular operating system compared to Windows OS or macOS.

Moreover, Google now wants to flip the fate of Chrome OS. Over the past few years, Google is making small yet gradual changes to make ChromeOS a viable option than to Windows OS. For instance, Chrome OS brought Android apps. Every Chromebook now delivers with Google Play Store and in last year, it added Linux apps on Chrome OS.
