Review:

Mel Gibson is seen protecting his life and livelihood from a vengeful mercenary (Walton Goggins) hired by a rich, 12-year-old boy (Chance Hurstfield) who wants him dead.

To save his declining holiday focused business, Chris Cringle (Mel Gibson), also known as Santa Claus, is forced into a partnership with the U.S. military to make ends meet. But the film’s main dramatic theme arrives from 14-year-old spoiled brat Billy (Chance Hurstfield). Billy gets angry when his only gift under the Christmas tree turns out to be a lump of coal. So, he engages a skinny hitman (Walter Goggins) to take a contract on Chris Cringle.

“Christmas generates $3 trillion in the U.S. alone and we can’t even pay the power bill,” Chris growls to his wife Ruth (the great Marianne Jean-Baptiste), who promises him that things will get better. But Chris remains unconvinced, “All I have is loathing for a world that’s forgotten,” he moans, before the U.S. government–which already subsidizes his operation as an economy booster shows up with a new, post-holiday season offer of a lucrative new contract to make control panels for fighter jets.

This movie features more than enough violence, a wrenching amount of blood, and strong language. The body count Goggins racks up throughout the film is truly shocking. Nine times out of ten, if he interacts with someone in the film, he kills them. And if he doesn’t kill them, he leaves them mentally scarred for the rest of their life.

Director and co-writer brothers Eshom and Ian Nelms (Small Town Crime) idea for the movie comes with equal parts of gore and scepticism. However, this movie does not seem sure if it wants to be a thriller or a comedy.

Overall, Fatman is a unique concept with impressive, actionable entertainment.
