Review:

The film is based on Hussain Zaidi's non-fiction novel ‘The Class of 83’: The Punishers of Mumbai Police’, which features Mumbai in the 80s and how the underworld grew in Mumbai in the 70s and 80s and criminal activities increased with violence there. Former Maharashtra Police DGP Arvind Inamdar had formed a team of policemen and gave them special training to make Mumbai crime free. These policemen are given clear instructions that they must find and kill every henchman of the Mumbai underworld and its leader, so that the people of Mumbai can live peacefully.

Arvind Inamdar, who was the dean of the Nashik-based police academy, had the biggest contribution in preparing such an encounter specialist. Bobby Deol is playing the role of the dean in Class of 83, who prepares an encounter specialist team to wipe out underworld goons.

Atul, who directed the 'Powder' web series for Yash Raj Films and the film 'Aurangzeb', did a good job on his part keeping the casting of the film absolutely perfect. By agreeing to play the role of an aging police officer named Vijay Singh, Bobby Deol has done justice to the character’s mannerisms.

Atul has placed bets on five new faces in the film 'Class of 83', these actors are at the centre of the story. The mutual synergy of these five characters are properly woven, which is very good. The faces of Bhupendra Jadawat in the roles of Sameer Paranjpe and Pramod Shukla in the role of Aslam Khan will be remembered even after the film. Anoop Soni and Vishwajit Pradhan have done their job well. The background music has also helped in keeping the film's mood right from the beginning to the end and for this Viju Shah deserves special mention.

It is to be hoped that 'Class of 83' will start a new tradition of stories with aging heroes in Hindi cinema, as stars like Denzil Washington, Liam Neeson, Will Smith and Arnold Schwarzenegger have established in Hollywood.

The film covers how after Dawood Ibrahim fled to Dubai in 1986, Mumbai had calmed down for some time. Overall, the Class of 83 shows how some encounter specialist policemen wiped out the dons and goons of the underworld to make Mumbai crime-free.
