Plot: Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’s story is set in Greater Noida and revolves around two cousins Dolly (Konkona Sen Sharma) and Kajal/Kitty (Bhumi Pednekar).

Dolly is a devoted mother, dutiful employee and determined optimist, but combats sexual tension with her husband Amit (Aamir Bashir), hence falls in love with a delivery boy. Whereas, Kajal has escaped her small town and is on her way to becoming ‘Kitty’ (a voice operator), at a call centre that sells romance. And during the process of turning Kitty, Kajal tries to balance her life by seeking love in one of her clients Pradeep (Vikrant Massey).

How these characters battle their intensely personal life problems, forms the rest of the story.

Review: The ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ Director, Alankrita Shrivastava's film opens up conversations around women's sexual needs and desires and is a commentary on sexuality, gender biases, moral policing and stereotyping. If ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ had four female protagonists, here it is two.

Though the film's narrative packs in too many angles, it has left some threads underdeveloped. In short, it is not the direction that hampers the watching experience, but it is the story that needed to be more polished and subtle. However, the film 'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare' manages to drive home the message that it sets out to give.

When it comes to performances, Konkona Sen Sharma, an ace player as always, is superlative. The actress has yet again proved that she can pull any performance with ease and conviction. Even Bhumi Pednekar dishes out a stellar act. Also, Vikrant Massey as Pradeep, is superb, as is Aamir Bashir as Dolly's husband, Amit. Even Amol Parasher stands out as the sweet delivery boy, Osmaan. Overall, the performances are top-notch.

As far as the technical aspect of the film is concerned, the music instead of distracting the viewers from the narration blends enough for it to play in the background and change the vibe of the film. Even the background score sticks and is restrained throughout without getting loud at any instance.

Overall, ‘Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’ brings out the different shades to womanhood and puts a spotlight on women, suppressed of their needs and dreams. Watch it for the slice of life vibe!
