Thus, it begins the secret life of ‘Shabari’.

Review: The social drama directed by Aritra Mukherjee and produced by Windows Production celebrates the International Women’s Day by narrating the story of a female priest. And with such an interesting, empowering concept, this family entertainer film brings a very important social message that has already made the people buzzing about the film.

This Bengali movie mentions the Shabrimala incident, where women went against the norms of the male domination and patriarchy in the temple, and their final win when a few women in their menstruating age managed to enter the temple. The film unwraps how deep the roots of patriarchy are, the stark differences with a combination of outdated rituals, rites, and gender imbalance, which would make anyone ponder as even in urban areas, people talk about independence, but doesn’t practice it in reality! In short, the movie strongly brings out the message of how a woman can be a priest like any other male in the society and also points out the other sensitive issues of a woman’s life and her struggle.

The strong performance by Ritabhari Chakraborty, who played the lead character Shabari believes her core values match with Shabari’s. Apart from Ritabhari, Soham Majumdar too delivered an apt performance, who has recently delivered a much-appreciated performance in the film Kabir Singh. And when it comes to music, the songs of the film are not that impressive enough.

Overall, Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti is a women-centric movie that speaks against discrimination and talks about ‘woman in periods’ and about all those taboos.  Definitely, the concept makes it worth watching. Highly recommended!
