6 drown in Godavari river
Hyderabad: Six people drowned in the Godavari river at a village in Nizamabad district of Telangana on Friday, police said.
A group of about 25 people, all relatives, gathered at Pochampadu in the district for a family-related religious event and seven of them ventured into the river for a bath, they said.
None of them knew how to swim and they moved into the deeper part of the river, the police said.
Seven of them drowned while one of them was saved, they said.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, an official press release said.
