18 more test positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya

Shillong: Eighteen more people, including 11 personnel of various armed forces, tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Tuesday, taking the state's tally to 1,994, a senior health department official said.

At least 10 people were discharged from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries in the northeastern state to 799, Health Services Director Aman War said.

Of the 18 new cases, 14 were reported from East Khasi Hills, two from Ri-Bhoi district and one each from North and West Garo Hills, War said.

"Eleven Armed Forces personnel are among the new patients - 10 from East Khasi Hills and one from West Garo Hills," he said.

Meghalaya currently has 1,187 active coronavirus cases. Eight people have died so far.

East Khasi Hills district, of which state capital Shillong is a part, has the highest number of active cases at 780 - 285 of them from various armed forces - followed by West Garo Hills at 224 and Ri-Bhoi at 93.

More than 45,000 samples have been tested in the state for COVID-19 so far, War added.
