10 Effective Home Remedies for Hair Fall

When we talk about beauty, women with beautiful hair are always the talk of the town. Hair plays a vital role towards the overall personality of an individual.
On the other hand, it is quite normal if you get some hair in your comb every day. However, it is painful to have heavy hair fall.

Reasons for Hair fall

Male baldness is generally a combination of genetic and hormone dihydrotestosterone, or in simple words hormonal imbalance. This pattern of a falling hair follicle is called MPHL, and sometimes it can be the result of Alopecia, a skin disorder.

Women do have many reasons for hair fall. The pattern for women is called FPHL, which leads to hair thinning. It could be unhealthy eating habits leading to vitamins and protein deficiency, and hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, stress or hypertension, thyroid, side effects of treatment or therapy like chemo, sleepless nights, dryness of scalp due to cold weather, to name a few.

Home-based Remedies

Whatever be the cause, hair fall is a serious condition. Hence, to help you overcome this issue, we bring to you some effective home remedies that will help control hair fall.

These home remedies include natural ingredients, which are considered more effective and safer. A healthy scalp is the key to have healthy hair and prevent hair loss.

1. Coconut Oil and Milk

Coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties. It would be great if the coconut is grown organically.

Message your scalp with warm coconut oil regularly, or to be precise, at least thrice a week. You can even add lemon juice to it, which helps prevents from getting skin infection and stimulate the growth of hair. Coconut milk is equally abundant. Mixing it with lavender oil helps against dandruff too.

2. Aloe Vera

It has natural laxative, which helps to control hair fall and improves hair growth. It brings a natural shine to hair and keeps us from any skin infection. Aloe Vera can be applied by simply massage on the scalp. You can even add an equal amount of coconut oil to it and apply on the scalp. Keep it for some at least half hour or overnight, and wash as usual.

3. Onion Juice

Onion juice is one of the best remedies for hair fall as it is rich in sulfur. Massaging onion juice on the scalp helps in the formation of collagen and keratin. These are the substances that help make hair stronger and fuller. It works for Alopecia patients too.

4. Amla (Gooseberry), Shikakai and Aritha (Soapnut)

  • Amla (also called as Amalaki in Sanskrit) is loaded with medicinal healing properties, and hence is called 'Divyaushadha' in Ayurveda. It is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B, phosphorus, calcium, iron, protein, carotene and fiber.
  • Shikakai is a medicinal plant that is traditionally used as a shampoo. It is rich in vitamins like C, A, E and K, micro-nutrients. Shikakai cleanses hair gently and detangles hair softly, thus helps reducing the breakage of hair and stops having split-ends.
  • Aritha or Reetha has a foaming agent that helps cleansing hair and skin mildly. Soapnut powder comes from the pulp of the fruit of a Soapnut tree, which contains a high level of saponin a foaming agent. Aritha is used in few detergents for delicate clothes too.

A combination of the trio is widely used by Indians from the ancient era. The immensity of Amla, Shikakai, and Aritha has been mentioned in our Ayurveda. Make a paste of trio's powder and apply for 30 minutes, or soak these three overnight and wash hair with strained water in the morning. This promotes hair growth by strengthening hair follicles.

5. Fenugreek Seeds or Methi

Fenugreek seeds comprises of calcium, fat and protein as daily value. They are a rich source of vitamin B, dietary fiber, minerals, manganese, iron. Methi is good for health as well as hair. It helps hair to grow stronger and shiny.

To make the paste, soak methi seeds overnight. Apply the paste as a hair mask and use the water to wash your hair, then rinse it off with water.

6. Mehndi or Heena Powder

It is also known as Lawsonia Inermis. Lawsone reacts chemically with the protein known as keratin, which further helps hair follicles get stronger and leads to lustrous hair growth. Henna leaves are used as medicine and cosmetics.

When henna is soaked overnight with curd along with amla and aritha powder, it becomes the most effective remedy for hair fall, hair loss or regrowth of hair. This can be applied directly to the affected areas with dandruff, fungal infections and scabies.

7. Chamomile, Hibiscus, Rosemary Oil

These three herbal plants contain vitamin A and C, which are most necessary nutrients for maintaining healthy hair and skin. Use them as oil by boiling them with coconut oil. Let it cool down and then apply on the scalp. Or dry both flowers and rosemary and grind them into powder. Mix this powder with coconut oil or olive oil to make a paste. You can use all three, or whichever is available. Apply the paste on the scalp. Leave it for 15 to 30 mins and then rinse it off.

8. Olive Oil

Olives are rich in vitamins A and C. Olive oil moisturizes scalp and stops irritation that prevents hair fall caused by dandruff.

Just warm the oil alone, or with Chamomile, Hibiscus or Rosemary Oil and apply on the scalp gently. Keep it overnight and wash it off with mild shampoo the next morning.

9. Apple Cider

Apple Cider has a bit of rep on the internet. Having cider at home is like having a doctor at home. It is also good for skin, digesting system, weight loss, and many more things.

Apple Cider helps to balance the pH level of the scalp, exfoliate dry skin and removes residue to prevent hair loss. The application on hair or scalp is very easy. Just add 3 teaspoons of Apple Cider /Vinegar in one cup of water in a spray bottle. Spray on your scalp and keep it for 15 to 20 minutes before washing your hair. You can also spray this liquid on your hair before going out for having frizz-free and voluminous hair.

10. Eggs

An egg is full of protein and vitamins, which helps cure dry and brittle hair. Egg yolk is full of lutein that keeps hair hydrated, strong and shiny.

Mix egg with henna or curd to make a hair mask. Apply this mask from roots to the ends. It is a great anti-frizz treatment for hair.
