Puducherry: Puducherry has witnessed spike in number of fresh COVID-19 cases with 194 infections being reported on Friday.

On Thursday, the union territory reported 123 coronavirus cases.

The overall caseload now stands at 1,67,408.

Director of Health G Sriramulu in a release said the 194 new cases surfaced during examination of 2,377 samples in the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today.

Puducherry region alone accounted for 159 new cases out of the 194 cases followed by 28 cases in Karaikal, six in Yanam and one in Mahe region.

A total of 109 patients recovered and the overall recoveries were 1,64,698, he said.

The active cases were 748 and this comprised 13 patients in hospitals and the remaining 735 in home quarantine, the Director said.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam today. The death toll remained at 1,962.

Sriramulu said the Health Department has so far examined 23,03,650 samples and out of them 19,46,695 were found to be negative.

The test positivity rate which was 5.22 per cent Thursday shot up to 8.16 per cent Friday.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.17 per cent and 98.38 per cent, respectively.

Sriramulu said the Health Department has so far administered 17,49,414 doses which comprised 9,72,565 first doses, 7,42,065 second doses and 34,784 booster doses.
