Plot: The story focuses on Salem, a town that is all set to celebrate its Halloween. As people start disappearing during every Halloween, Hubie played by Adam Sandler ensures the safety of people in his town. He calls it a family tradition and thanklessly spends every Halloween making sure the residents of his hometown celebrate safely. Despite all this, he is often bullied by kids and the elderly equally, because no one finds him adult enough, due to the childish way in which he talks.

Since people in the town are unaware of the danger lurking around them and are risking their lives, will Hubie be able to convince the police and townsfolk that the monsters are real? Will he be able to find out what and who it is? Will Halloween go wrong in Salem this time, is what forms the rest of the story.

Review: Director Steven Brill’s movie starts on an exciting note with a ghost escaping from the mental asylum, which gives the viewers an idea that this is going to be an unusual horror-comedy.

Though there is no denying that the movie looks colourful, interesting and catches attention, yet it lacks soul as the gorgeous sets and script that had the potential to be a great horror-comedy fails to capture human emotions. For instance, everything is shown in a funny way. Hence, the viewers won’t feel upset every time someone makes fun of Hubie but to empathize with him getting bullied, a few intense scenes should have been there as that would have elevated this horror-comedy better.

Moreover, the film becomes a messy platter as the first 30 minutes pass by, as it gets difficult to understand whether the story is all about the missing ghost? Or is it the story of Salem’s magnificent Halloween gathering or the bullying!

Another drawback of the movie is that it has way too many characters. And though the casting is good, the actors don’t have much to offer to the story.

However, when it comes to performances, Adam Sandler plays a childlike Hubie, a likable character. Since he is known for playing such unconventional parts, he manages to tickle the viewer’s funny bones.

Also, Kevin James who plays the sergeant Steve Downey, and Julie Bowen who plays Hubie’s love interest, Violet Valentine, have given good performances as well.

Even Steve Buscemi, Rob Schneider, June Squibb, Noah Schnapp, and Ray Liotta have played their part well, though they didn’t have much screen space.

Overall, Hubie Halloween is full of madness. It is light-hearted, entertaining, a bit disappointing though. Nevertheless, this Netflix horror-comedy is the one for you if you are in the mood to watch a silly movie with a horror element.
