Walter Art Gallery Kicks off the Winter Season with "Abstract Formation"

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.: Walter Art Gallery is pleased to present "Abstract Formation", a small group exhibition featuring the work of Charmagne Coe, Tom Ortega, and Lorena Suarez. These three noted local artists bring their unique formations of form, color, and composition to Walter Art Gallery.

Charmagne Coe creates dazzling mixed media paintings, assemblages and drawings in a genre she calls, Soft Brut. She creates expression and narrative in mixed media such as acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel or whatever intuitively pushes into her imagination and the canvas. "I am creating bare, rudimentary expressions which combine my techniques with assemblage, collage and fiber arts." She received her BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Art from Northern Arizona University. Her work has been included and awarded in publications such as Phoenix Magazine, Utne Reader, Luxe Interiors + Design and Creative Quarterly. Her work is currently represented by Royse Contemporary in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Tom Ortega creates minimalist sculptures and paintings. Each piece informs the next with his process reflecting a passage of time, the artist sands the wood surfaces, pulls them apart and puts them back again, allowing each piece to live a life before it is complete. The artist sees every day in the studio as an opportunity to learn something, a chance to experiment and play. Ortega received his BA in Drawing/Painting from North Texas University and a BA in Communications from Texas Tech University. His work is included in many private, public and corporate collections. Recently he was added to the Polsinelli collection and featured in the Microdwell exhibition at the historic Shemer Art Center.  His work is currently represented by Mary Tomas Gallery in Dallas, Texas.

Abstract Expressionist Lorena Suarez creates striking emotionally fueled mixed media paintings. Exploring many mediums and technics she found her own expression and freedom through abstract expressionism. Her artwork utilizes mixed media along with a kaleidoscope of colors with the goal of opening the minds of viewers and bringing emotions to the surface. "I invite you to let yourself feel that emotion without judgment, we do not see things the same way others do." Each painting contains all sorts of different shapes, objects and emotions for each unique viewer. She received her formal education in Communication in Monterrey.
