All of us are very well aware of the fact ‘human being is a social animal’. Thus, we cannot live in isolation; we need society, family and relatives for our survival. Very often in our lives we see that not everyone we know of is our well-wisher, some of these people are ‘toxic and  negative’ and try to spread negativity in our lives.

Toxic people can be easily identified as they have certain traits like- acting victim in every situation, demeaning others, emotional blackmailing, spreading negativity, finding fault in everything, manipulating others et al.  We have to beware of such people in order to keep away from all the negativity in our lives and lead a positive life. Though there are certain toxic relatives in everyone’s life that we cannot seclude, we have to live with them and this is the most difficult task. 

To make this difficult task easier for you, we have compiled the following tips to survive the toxic relatives.

Tip 1: Ignorance is Bliss

The first and the most important tip to survive a toxic relative is to ignore him/her completely. This calls for a lot of patience and time.

By ignoring a toxic person, you are keeping yourself away from all sort of negativity like unpleasant arguments, fights et al. Make the person realize that he/she is non-existent for you and is not at all an important part of your life. 

Tip 2: Less Interaction

If you know that a certain relative is hampering your mental peace and spreading toxicity in your life, don’t interact much with him/her. Talk only about the relevant topic. Don’t share any of your plans with the toxic relatives.

Make sure that you don’t take their words to your heart and feel bad about it. Try to avoid any unpleasant interaction with them as it will only spread negativity around.

To get rid of the problems created by the toxic people in your life, you have to have a positive mindset. Try to make meditation and breathing exercises a part of your lifestyle, it will help in distressing you and bring positivity in you. Also, try to include any sort of workout – brisk walk, jogging, yoga, cardio exercises et al. in your daily routine as it reduces the stress hormone in your body.

Don’t worry too much about what has happened in the past and the future holds for you, live in the present as you can’t control the past and the future but the present. Try to follow the philosophy ‘Whatever happens, happens for good!”

Tip 4: Spend some Quality ‘Me Time’

Make sure that you take out some time for yourself (Me Time) daily. Do the things that make you happy – cooking, singing, dancing, reading et al. Pick up a hobby – painting, gardening et al. and spend some time on it daily. Pamper yourself. Adopt a healthy lifestyle by doing regular workouts and eating a balanced diet.

Give priority to yourself rather than others. Though this might sound being selfish to some, but this will help you in boosting up your self-confidence.
