When someone looks at a woman, the very first thing that they notice is the eyes. That is the reason why women invest a lot of effort in perfecting the same. Now, there is a lot of makeup that one can do on the eyes. What you do will depend on several factors like the occasion you are going to, your complexion, age and a host of other things. The eyeliner is one thing that can never go wrong. Irrespective of what your outfit is or where you are going to, you just cannot give the eyeliner a miss!

There are many ways of applying eyeliner. Among them, the one that is in fashion these days is that of the winged eyeliner. It gives the eye a dramatic look and ensures that your pretty eyes draw the right attention. Now if your lack of proficiency and confidence (or your shaky hands for that matter) are preventing you from getting that perfect look, then you need not worry anymore.

Here are 6 tips that will help you to ace the winged look with absolute ease.

1.    Tape method

This method is recommended for absolute beginners. Here you just have to cut a piece of tape (about 2cm length will do) and paste it along the angle where you would want your wings to be. Now, use the outline of the tape for guidance to draw the wings. Once done, let the eyeliner dry off and then take off the tape. Repeat the process for the other eye.

2.    Spoon method

Usage of the spoon in getting the winged look is recommended when you do not have the time to go through the tape method. Here, with the handle of the spoon, you first draw a straight line from the corner of the eye. Once that is done, the rounded tip of the spoon is placed over the eye in a fashion that it cups the eyelids. The curvy tips of the wings can now be easily obtained from the rounded edge. Once that is over, you just have to take the spoon off and fill the space between the two lines. In no time you have the wings ready and now you can extend the eyeliner over the upper eyes as you would normally do to complete the look.

3.    Stencil method

When you have a date or a party plan straight after work, most of the time you do not have access to a lot of props. However, one thing that most working women have in their purse is a spare business card. On the blank side of it, you can draw the rough outline of your eyes. Over that, draw the shape of your wings and then cut it out using a blade or a pair of scissors (Again these are things that are found very easily in a working lady’s handbag). Your stencil is now ready. Place it over the eyes to get the perfect winged look by merely covering the cutout area of the business card with your eyeliner. Moreover, the best thing about this method is that a stencil needs to be prepared just once and can be used repeatedly.

4.    Business Card method

Here you need to hold the business card from the Corner OF your eye at the angle in which YOU would want your wings to go up. Now trace the straight edge of the eyeliner to create the wings. Once the wings are ready, go along the upper eyelash and stretch the eyeliner to the inner edge of the eye.

5.    Freehand method

Once you have had a certain amount of experience with the props, you are good enough to pull off the winged eyeliner look without any of it. Here, you start by drawing a line from the corner of your eye in a fashion such that the line looks like it is following the curve of the lower lash. Make this line as long as you would want your wings to go. Now draw a line over the upper eyelid. Make sure that this line begins at the tear duct and goes up to the endpoint of the line lash that you had drawn. Now fill in the gaps between the two lines ensuring that there is no space left.

6.    Dot method

If you are not confident about drawing the curve line from the tip in the method discussed above, you can always go for the dotted method. Here, you draw a dot next to the corner of the eye. Draw a dot to the point where you would want your wings to go. Ideally, that should not stretch beyond the tip of your eyebrow. Now draw a dot between these two dots. Using your eyeliner, draw a line that touches these three points. Draw a line along the upper lid that comes up to the endpoint of the line drawn and then fill up space in between.

Now that you have chosen your method of applying the winged eyeliner, the other thing that you need to bear in mind is your choice of eyeliner. If you are looking for a subtle finish, you may go for pencil eyeliners. The fact that these are not messy and easy to handle is an added advantage for beginners. For a striking finish and a bolder look, go for liquid or gel eyeliners.

Having perfected the winged eyeliner look, you are now ready to be the diva of any gathering. By experimenting with the winged look you will soon find out which look complements your eyes the best.

You can also try adjusting the sharpness and length of your wings to create a new look every day.
