Kochi: A total of 28,523 students from 323 schools in Ernakulam district entered the record books on Saturday after they underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training which would help them extend help during cardiac emergencies, officials said.

This is a Guinness World Record for holding the largest such training on a single day, the officials claim.

A total of 28,523 students from 323 schools in the district was given CPR training in the programme called heart beats held near here.

They broke the record set by Savita University, Chennai, in such a programme earlier in which 28,015 people were given training CPR training, officials said.

The programme was organised jointly by Ernakulam district administration, Angel International Foundation, IMA Kochi unit and District legal services authority.

Justice C K Abdul Rahim inaugurated the programme.
