'Meghdoot', the word says it all! The word ‘Meghdoot’ literally means "Cloud Messenger". Clearly, it is a perfect name for this device of harvesting water from air.

Our Indian railway has succeeded in setting up an Atmospheric Water Generator kiosk at Secunderabad Railway Station named 'Meghdoot'. This device can harvest water directly from Air. Water gets filtered and re-mineralized in this kiosk. This technology can produce around 1000 liters water per day. Water at this kiosk costs just 5-8 rupees per liter (depends on carrying own bottle or not).

Know About the Meghdoot Project: Hyderabad-based Mr. Ramkrishna, the 53-year-old owner of a small start-up 'Maithri Aquatech', has addressed the acute world problem by approaching with his unique idea of making water from air.

He was concerned about Chennai already facing drought and soon by 2020, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and many other cities would face crisis of potable water. By thinking out of the box, he came up with self-sustainable solution of producing consumable water from air.

Well! Do you know that we can get 3.1 quadrillion gallon of water from atmosphere at any time of frame?

The machine is called 'Atmospheric Water Generator' (AWG), which has two air filters of 12 microns and 1 micron to remove particles in the air. This machine uses refrigeration techniques to condense humidity from air.

Air is sucked into the system through an electrostatic filter. Moisture laden air passes over cooled coils, which provides a different temperature and results condensation. Then, water passes through filters to remove bacteria, solids and odor. Now, pure and bacteria-free water is collected in a tank which is ready to consume without sanity hesitations. This water from the air does fulfill the standard of World Health Organization (WHO).

This highest quality water is far better than any other techniques of. Additionally, cost of this process is very low as main resource is Air, which is free of cost. It consumes only 0.3-unit energy that costs about Rs 2. for generating 1 Liter high quality water.

Under the Project:

1. Under this project, weather forecast department is aiming to cover up to Gram Panchayat level.

2. Real time data collection, analysis and dissemination is done by the department.

3. Early warning and alerts generation and dissemination in public can be tracked.

4. Drought monitoring.

5. Enables farmers to plan sowing to harvesting.

6. Enables to plan for water conservation based on precipitation pattern.

This device or machine has been established at Army-Navy establishments, hospitals, IT industries, public sectors and hundreds of homes. The company has plans to spread their wings out of India. It is targeting a revenue of 100Cr by making their product available in South East Asia, Africa and Middle East.

This has proved to be a good initiative under the protocol of 'Conserve Water- Conserve Lives ' and 'Make in India’.
