Rising Films' Dark-Comedy "Aim High" Receives Award; Momentum Building For Next Feature Length Film

Canada Shorts Film Festival Announces Aim High Award of Excellence

TORONTO: Writer/director Daniel McGuire's genre-bending short film "Aim High" has earned the Award of Excellence from the 2019 Canada Shorts Film Festival, strengthening efforts even further on their next project.

This marks Aim High's seventh festival selection and its first award. Coupled with an upcoming festival screening in home-based Toronto (VideoDrunk, November 30th), the independent production company Rising Films is thrilled and eager to use the momentum to fuel their next feature length project.

Produced by Maria Gagliardi of Black Ram Media Group Inc and co-produced by Michael Pearson, Aim High is a visually-striking and darkly comedic film that explores the tension and comedy of an oblivious boyfriend (played by Michael Pearson) refusing to leave a murderous ex-girlfriend's apartment (played by Rebekka Gondosh). With a mentally troubled neighbour in the apartment below to spice things up even further (played Trevor Ketcheson), the film has widely entertained festival audiences across North America with McGuire's unexpected and genre-bending style.

The success of Aim High has motivated the Rising Films team to drive their heads deep into the final stages of development for their next feature - a modernly stylized horror script which writer/director Daniel McGuire has been meticulously perfecting since before the production of Aim High.
