The former ‘Queen’ couple is back with rigor and ferocity, and this time it is a war where all is fair except love.

There is something clearly sweet about a couple who build life together, respect each other, and stand by each other through thick and thin. Now add a dead body, some criminal records, and a number of instances of black coded behavior, and suddenly the otherwise gullible couple so in love becomes the most desirous pair for everyone- from the law to the law abiding citizens. The reason Bonnie and Clyde, the notorious early 20th century duo who had gripped Central United states by its throat in the peaking years of the Great Depression, were more romanticized than disgraced by detective pulp fiction journals, media reels, and the cinema industry saw an endless retelling renovating of their story across ages.

Shaad Ali’s directed 2005 movie, ‘Bunty aur Bubli’, which if not entirely somewhat closely followed the legacy of Bonnie and Clyde, was an adorable story about two seemingly nice people who go on a robbing rave when their dreams are put to stake. What was most refreshing about the couple was that instead of the regular Bollywood-love stories where the man is always the savior and the woman a mere damsel in distress, ‘Bunty aur Bubli’ introduced us to a partnership between the man and the woman who dreamt fearlessly and always had each other’s back to follow up on their dreams. Putting up with a similar notion, ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ brings us an unusual partnership of not just a man and a woman being equally responsible for crime but each trying to destroy the other while putting up a calm face.

As the baffling trailer of ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ dropped today, here’s everything you need to know about the movie:

Release Date

‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ arrives to the theatres this month on July 26.

Plot

The surreal trailer introduces us to the two leading characters, who themselves thrive in the murky zone between reality and fantasy. None of the characters seem ordinary, even when we are briefly introduced to them their gawking personalities and careless reluctance is at once attractive. The movie is set to revolve around a murder with two suspects, one of whom appears to be a clear murderer due to her appearance and behaviour while the other seemingly perfect guy has a secret that when revealed begins to add new layers to both the suspects. It is intriguing because the story itself seems abstract and the characters are borderline descendants to the ones mostly witnessed in a Theatre of the Absurd.

Cast

The leading duo had some unfinished business in the 2013 drama, ‘Queen’, where a couple break up on the eve of their marriage which leads the girl to discover a whole new side to herself while travelling across some of the most beautiful countries in Europe. While ‘Queen’ saw the girl getting her last word, it seems with ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’, the duo- in very different avatars- will be back to reclaim their places as one of the quirkiest couples on screen.

Kangana Ranaut is set to play the leading girl, a character on the verge of being declared clinically unstable but she somewhat gains attention not for her perks but for her immense surge to put up an appearance as a film actress. However, she is soon attracted to the next door man, played by Rajkummar Rao whose immense simplicity impresses her. The two come together under strange circumstances and it takes a minute to turn the two against each other.

News

Writer Kanika Dhillon was apparently warned by her co-workers in the industry that working with Ranaut, who was in the middle of a controversy when her name appeared as ‘additional story and dialogue writer’ ahead of Apurva Asrani’s ‘story, screenplay and dialogue’, would not be a pleasant experience. However, Dhillon maintained that she had a great time collaborating with the actress, as she said, “There’s this huge perception (about Kangana). Yes, people did warn me that it’s not going to be a good experience, as a writer, to work with her. ‘You don’t know what will hit you,’ they said. But Kangana is a sharp, fiery and an interesting mind. I had a lot of fun collaborating with her. That’s all I can say.”
