Aurangabad: Police forces are our frontline workers who are risking their lives with the aim to fulfil their duty to maintain law and order in the country amid the prevailing pandemic situation aligned with the festive times. But this particular police station of Aurangabad city of Maharashtra are going beyond their call of duty and has come to the rescue of the children residing in slum areas who did not have facilities to attend online classes or were missing out on schools due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The Pundalik Nagar police station has started English classes for children from nearby slums, for a period of 15 days, with the help of a teacher on its premises. According to reports, the sessions, a part of the community policing programme, would be conducted for 15 days with the help of a volunteer-teacher.

S P Jawalkar who is the retired headmaster of a local school has volunteered to be part of the project and has been conducting the classes for free.

The assistant police inspector Ghanshyam Sonawane said, "Children are unable to attend schools due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and many don't have facilities to attend classes online. Considering the scenario, we decided to arrange for tutorials for English and mathematics.”

Sonawane further added that classes were started for 14 middle school students, of which 6 were unable to attend online classes during the lockdown. The sessions are being held for one and a half hours, every day, on the roof of the police station.

The officials are following Covid-19 safety protocol like wearing facemasks, maintaining social distancing and using sanitisers while conducting the classes.
