Raipur: The prices of diesel and petrol went up by Rs 2.25 per litre in Chhattisgarh on Thursday with the state government withdrawing the subsidy on the Value Added Tax (VAT) on the two fuels for increasing revenue.

The state commercial department issued a notification announcing withdrawal of subsidy late Wednesday evening.

But the prices of fuels will still be low in the state compared to neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha, the government said.

As per a state government release, as of August 7 the price of petrol was Rs 77.36 per litre in Bhopal, Rs 78.09 in Nagpur and Rs 70.85 in Raipur.

Following the withdrawal of VAT relaxation, petrol will cost Rs 73.10 per litre and diesel will cost Rs 71.52 in Raipur from August 8, an official said.
