The Parkinson’s Foundation, an organization working to make life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure, today announced its fourth-annual Spanish-language conference in Los Angeles, which aims to provide the community with information related to Parkinson’s disease treatment and management. The conference, led by a noted line up of expert physicians and advocates, is specifically designed for Hispanics and Spanish-speakers living with Parkinson’s disease (PD), their care partners, and the general healthcare community.

“As part of our mission to tackle this problem head on, we’re providing this conference to better empower and serve Latinos living with the disease through expert care, education, and advocacy that is patient and community centered.”

“Hacia Adelante: Navegando el Mar del Parkinson’s” will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at the DoubleTree by Hilton located at 13111 Sycamore Dr, Norwalk, CA 90650. The event is completely free and open to the public, but registration is required at parkinson.org/conferencia or by calling the bilingual Parkinson’s Foundation Helpline at 1-800-4PD-INFO (473-4636). All sessions and activities will be conducted in Spanish.

“Parkinson’s is more prevalent in Hispanics than in any other U.S. ethnic group, but studies confirm that many Hispanics are underserved when it comes to accessing necessary Parkinson’s information, treatment and care,” said Fernando Cubillos, MD, Senior Director of Research Programs at the Parkinson's Foundation. “As part of our mission to tackle this problem head on, we’re providing this conference to better empower and serve Latinos living with the disease through expert care, education, and advocacy that is patient and community centered.”

The conference will cover topics requested by the community, including managing motor and non-motor symptoms, exercise, navigating the healthcare system, the family approach to caregiving, and staying motivated while facing PD. The conference will also feature complimentary lunch, Q&A discussions, dance and exercise demos, and live music performances. Special guest Sebastian Krys, a five-time Grammy and 12-time Latin Grammy award winner, will speak about living with Parkinson’s.
