Mumbai: The Covid-19 pandemic has brought back the focus on the necessity for healthcare reforms in the country. The global pandemic has created the need for a self-reliant medical infrastructure healthcare system in the country. To create an effective forum, which will bring together the stakeholders and policymakers to pioneer disruptive reforms in the healthcare ecosystem towards making India self- reliant, MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) along with the Vishwaraj Hospital and the MIT-WPU School of Pharmacy today announced the World Health Parliament (WHP) 2021.

The four-day virtual conference will have ten sessions starting from 21st to 24th January 2021 and the theme of the conference is: Pioneering Disruptive Reforms in the Healthcare Ecosystem and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The objective of the conference is to create an effective forum to discuss the measures to overhaul the healthcare ecosystem by enriching the research and medical education and by improving the capability and augmenting the healthcare facilities.

The conference will witness dignitaries like Shri. Rajesh Tope - Minister of Health, Govt. of Maharashtra, Mumbai, Shri. Amit Deshmukh, Hon’ble Minster of Medical Education, Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Maharashtra, Guardian Minister, Latur, Dr. Sanjay Oak, Chairman of Taskforce for COVID-19, Govt. of Maharashtra, Dr. Tatyarao Lahane - Padma Shri, Director, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER), State of Maharashtra & Head, Maharashtra State's AYUSH Task Force, Dr. Anbumani Ramdoss - Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha, Former Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, Dr. Mani Kumar Sharma - Hon'ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Sikkim, Dr. Praveen Togadia – Renowned Cancer Surgeon, President Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad, Founder, Hindustan Nirman Dal, Former International Working President, Vishva Hindu Parishad, Shri. Naba Kishore Das - Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Odisha along with the other dignitaries.

Dr. Sanjay Oak, Chairman of Taskforce for COVID-19, Govt. of Maharashtra, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed our collective outlook and lifestyles. The challenges faced by the healthcare ecosystem and administrators in the face of this pandemic are unprecedented. I am pleased that MIT WPU has set up a forum where there can be a constructive discussion of what went right and what should have been done differently in the event of a pandemic. This is the most appropriate time to introspect if we, as a country, are prepared to handle pandemics of similar magnitude in the future.”

Shri. Rahul V. Karad – Managing Trustee & Executive President, MAEER’s MIT and Executive President, MIT World Peace University, said, “Currently, India is on its new journey of being 'Atmanirbhar' or self-reliant. Yet, the country's overall spending on healthcare costs and expenditure is a complete contrast to the developed world. There is a need for a fundamental transformation of the healthcare ecosystem, starting with research in medical education, technological intervention and the healthcare delivery system. MIT-WPU has organised a global conference on public health, education and research to promote research and innovation in the healthcare sector and provide a forum where stakeholders can come together to discuss, deliberate, determine and design interventions that will help to change the healthcare ecosystem in the country."

The first day of the conference will kick off with the theme: COVID-19 & Beyond, under which Session 1 will be on the topic: India’s response to COVID-19: Virus to Vaccine and Session 2 will cover the topic of: Pitfalls and Perils in Healthcare Sector in India.

The second day is based on the theme of Reforms in Medical Education under which Session 3 will highlight the topic: Pandemic and Disruptive Reforms in Medical Education, Session 4 will cover the topic: Improving Capability and Reach of Paramedic Services and Session 5 will discuss the topic of How to Increase Healthcare Manpower & the Role of Public and Private Sectors for Effective Health Services.

The third day of the conference is centered around the theme of Research & Innovation, with Session 6 deliberating on the topic: Fostering Research in Medicines, Medical Equipment and Treatment, Session 7 discussing the topic of Medical Research: Learning from Global Experience and Session 8 focusing on the topic of Research in Alternative Medicine and Role of AYUSH.

The fourth or the last day of the conference will revolve around the theme: Towards Atmanirbhar Health System, in which Session 9 will deliberate on the topic: Towards Atmanirbhar Health System in India and Session 10 will highlight the topic of Regulatory Reforms in Health Sector. The conference will conclude with the Valedictory Ceremony where awards to Corona Warriors will be presented.

The World Health Parliament 2021 is being conducted with the patronage of Padma Vibhushan Dr. R. A. Mashelkar - Eminent Scientist, National Research Professor, Chancellor, ICT, Mumbai and Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Eminent Computer Scientist and Chancellor, Nalanda University and is inspired by the revered Prof. Dr. Vishwanath Karad. The conference has been conceptualised & convened under the dynamic leadership of educationist, Shri Rahul V Karad.
