It’s that time of the year again—September, wherein whole India, especially Mumbai, witnesses the spectacular idols of Lord Ganesha, the God of wisdom in Hindu religion, cruising through the roads with a lot of pomp and grandeur.

While the dazzling festival of Ganpati is still on, we hope that our loving Lord Ganesha brings tons of good fortune, wisdom and prosperity to all of us.

Even though, this festival is exclusively celebrated in Maharashtra, the significance of this festival is such that most of the India participates in its celebration. Let’s have a look at how some of the Indian states that celebrate this grand festival in their own unique ways.

  1. Maharashtra

The festival in Maharashtra begins with installation of huge idols of Lord Ganesha that are beautifully crafted by numerous talented artists across the nation in each and every home in the state.  On Ananta Chaturdasi, which is the last day of the festival, after hours of singing and dancing, the idols are finally immersed in the ocean with a promise to bring Him back the next year.  If you are in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, at this time of the year, then do not miss the procession. Siddhi Vinayak temple is the place to be to see the most extraordinary celebration of this festival.

  1. Gujarat

Ganesha Festival is celebrated vibrantly in Gujarat as well. Big and colorful pandals are decorated for 10 days as the beautiful idols of the Lord are worshipped by people. Idols are also brought home during the festival before they are immersed in the Rivers Tapi, Sabarmati and Lake Kankaria. During this festival, different kinds of Gujarati dishes are distributed among the devotees.

  1. Rajasthan

One thing that separates Ganesha Festival in Rajasthan from other states is that the idols of Ganesha are bathed in Red Kumkum and decorated with flower garlands.

Additionally, a thali embellished with laddoo, kumkum and haldi is placed near the entrance of the house. However, the idols are worshipped for the same amount of days before they are bid goodbye, only to come back to next year.

  1. Goa

Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the biggest festivals of Goa. The Konkani and Maharashtrian people living in Goa celebrate the festival for a week with much gusto! The unique thing about the celebration of Ganesha Festival in Goa is that the state has started using eco-friendly idols to control pollution that takes place due to immersion of a huge amount of Ganesha idols in the river or ocean.   1. Karnataka

Karnataka celebrates this beautiful festival in more special way. The state doesn’t only worship the Lord Ganesha but also His motherthrough Gauri Pooja. Ma Gauri is worshipped by married women, exclusively to have a blissful married life. Even young girls worship the Goddess to get a husband as handsome and caring as Lord Shiva. The festival is celebrated for three or seven days but can be stretched to 10, or even 21 days before the immersion of Ganesha with His mother.

  1. Andhra Pradesh

Ganesha Chaturthi, better known as Vinayaka Chaturthi in Andhra, is one of the most ancient festivals.  During this time of the year, you will see streets colored with big and bright idols of the Lord of wisdom and good fortune blessing the eyes and souls of people and devotees. You will find pandals on every end of the streets serving Modak and food to the devotees and poor people. Khairathabad Ganesha Idol is one of the most famous installations of the Ganesha in the state.

Apart from the above states, this festival is also celebrated in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and many parts of North India with much enthusiasm and devotion.
