Plot:

With the stakes higher than ever, Frank and Claire work together to consolidate their power and win the White House by any means possible.

As the season started, President Frank and VP Claire had just launched a war- something that they themselves manufactured in order to distract the American people from Tom Hammerschmidt's damaging report. Claire looked directly into the camera alongside Frank as her husband ominously declared: "We make the terror."

The election game is on and the air in the atmosphere is tense. The day before the election, Conway holds a 24-hour Skype session with voters, while Frank and Claire stump in key states and try to discredit him. With a tight race and low voter turnout on Election Day, things look grim for Frank. But he's still got one more trick up his sleeve.

Claire defeats General Brockhart to become Vice President— but with neither Frank nor Conway able to gather enough votes to win the House and thereby, Claire becomes Acting President until the race is decided. Cheer! To the Lady finally in charge, for temporarily though.

However, it has not been long before - The Underwoods receive an audio recording of an incident and use it to convince Conway's campaign manager Mark Usher to abandon him. With Usher's help, the Underwoods finally defeat Conway once and for all, and Frank resumes his duties as POTUS (President of the United States).

Review:

Season 5 of the series has the less of it outlandish edge due to the political climate. Yes, as usual there are killings as well, but it’s utterly heart-breaking when Claire kills Tom. She poisons his whiskey and made love to him one last time before he died on the rug and she called Usher to take care of the body.

As things turn in its usual surprising pace, with that as Frank is evicted from the White House. He watches Claire's first televised address as he's horrified to realize she's gone back on her word!

And so, Season 5 ended with Claire in the Oval Office and Frank about to go to war with his wife. How will things take turn in the show? We shall find out in Season 6!
