Plot:

Hostages is an Indian crime thriller web television series directed by Sudhir Mishra. It is an official adaptation of an Israeli series of the same name. The series has been renewed for a second season which is currently scheduled for premiere on 9 September 2020.

In the second season, Surgeon Dr. Mira Anand (Tisca Chopra) is scheduled to perform a routine operation on the chief minister, but the night before the procedure, her family is taken hostage and she is ordered to assassinate her unwitting patient in order to save her family, forcing her to make a decision.

Review:

After the engaging story in the first season of Hostages, Ronit Roy is now back as Prithvi Singh in the second edition. Hostages 2 picks up from the point where the first season concluded.

Hostages 2 serves an engaging tale. It provides the right atmosphere to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. With every move of the characters, the audience will get pulled into the story, all credited to the screenplay. The pace of the narrative is fast. With an engaging story that is developed with striking details, Hostages 2 unfolds various chapters over a course of 12 episodes of 30 minutes each.

While Season 1 too saw a hostage crisis with Dr. Mira (Tisca Chopra) caught in the crossfire, this time the situation now concerns with former Superintendent of Police Prithvi (Ronit Roy) who is being surrounded by cops, the anti-terrorism squad and media in a beat-down mansion.

In the previous Season, we find out that CM Handa (Dalip Tahil) is still alive while presumed to have been dead. This is because Prithvi plans to use his bone marrow for his wife's transplant. Season 2 starts with Prithvi and Co. making their way to Delhi only for the CM's head of security Subramanian (Mohan Kapur) to trail them as the latter uncovers the truth. When Handa tries to escape, Prithvi is able to get a hold of him but the problem arises with Saba's deteriorating health which forces them to seek refuge at Purani Kothi.

We get to see Ayesha Khan as a masterful hostage negotiator who is brought in to normalise the extremely tense situation. We also have Kanwaljit Singh and Sachin Khurana as the Head of the Police Force and Prithvi's replacement officer who clashes with Ayesha and want to use force instead of non-violence.

Hostages has many characters and subplots. The viewer will not feel bored while witnessing the drama unfold.

The writers Nisarg Mehta, Shiva Bajpai and Mayukh Ghosh have done a worthy job of keeping the viewers interested with the show’s fast pace.

Hostages Season 2, can to some people give the look and feel of Money Heist given the similar setting and similar character points.
