These days, there is an increase in the pollution level of our cities. Our food habits have also changed and people have started consuming more junk food, alcohol, and even smoking. Lifestyle has become more sedentary. The combined effect of all of this has taken a toll on our hair health. The wide array of styling products that we use does nothing to help. This has led to a greater number of people complaining about uncontrolled hair fall and subsequent hair thinning.

However, this is not one of those beauty problems that do not have a solution. We bring to you simple home remedies that will help one tackle hair thinning without the use of chemicals.

1. Aloe Vera
Proteolytic enzymes are found in abundance in aloe vera. These help in repairing dead skin cells thereby increasing hair volume by stimulating hair growth from dormant hair follicles.

Take a leaf of aloe vera and slice it with a knife. Now, using a spoon scoop out the gel inside till you get about two teaspoons of it. Using your fingertips massage the gel into your scalp, ensuring that the gel has a uniform consistency. Once you have massaged it well, leave it on for 20 – 25 minutes after which you can rinse it off with warm water.

Do this twice a week for a couple of months and you will be pleasantly surprised to notice the difference.

2. Green tea
Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and helps in keeping the hair healthy. Here you need to brew a cup of green tea and allow it to cool. For best results do not use green tea that was prepared before some time. Once the tea reaches the room temperature, pour it all over your hair ensuring that your hair is well saturated with it. The exact amount of tea required will depend on the length and volume of your hair. Massage your scalp well and let the tea stand on your hair for an hour after which you may rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Do not use a shampoo or any other hair cleansing agent when you go for this.

3. Apple cider vinegar method
In this method, you first wash your hair with your conventional shampoo the way you would normally do. Then you mix about 75ml of apple cider vinegar in a litre of water. Use a cup of this mixture as your final rinse thereby maintaining the pH balance of your hair. The rest of the solution that you had prepared can be stored.

It is advisable that you follow this practice every time you shampoo your hair. If storing the solution is inconvenient to you, you may prepare it in smaller batches.

4. Eggs
Eggs are a rich source of proteins and work wonders in hair care. Here you need to take a tablespoon of olive oil and blend it to a smooth mixture after adding an egg to it. Once the mixture is ready, you apply it from root to tips and let it stand for half an hour. If you feel that things are getting messy, you may use a shower cap to cover your hair. After the said period, go ahead and wash your hair with the shampoo you would normally use. Post that you may use a conditioner, unless you have oily hair, in which case you must avoid this step.

The only thing that you need to note here is that you must not use warm water while washing your hair.

5. Amla
This is another very simple process to deal with hair thinning. Amla is a rich source of vitamin C and that helps in promoting hair growth.

Here you need to take equal quantities of amla and lime juice and make it to a smooth mixture. The mixture is then applied to the hair. In this case, it needs to be applied from the roots to the tips until the scalp is well covered. It is then left to dry. Once that is done, it is washed off by rinsing with warm water.

6. Olive oil
Take a couple of teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil and massage your scalp with it. Do that for about 10 minutes. Now take a large towel and soak it in warm water. Take it out and wring out the excess water. Drape this towel around your head and let it stand for 10 more minutes after which you can wash it off with normal shampoo.

This should be done every 4 – 5 days as the regular use of olive oil prevents the formation of DTH hormone which is one of the prime culprits for hair thinning.

7. Fenugreek seeds
This takes a little longer time in the preparation (as compared to the other methods discussed in the list), but the results are worth it.

You start by soaking about 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in half a cup of water and leaving it overnight. The next day, the seeds are blend in a little water to get a smooth, thick paste. Ideally, use the water that it was soaked in. Once the mixture is ready, you go ahead and apply it to your hair going from the roots to the tips. The mixture is then left on the hair for about 30 minutes after which it is rinsed off with cold water.

Doing this once a week for a month fosters improved scalp health and that helps cut down on hair fall.

8. Onion juice
This is another tried and tested method for promoting hair growth. Take a large onion and chop it. Using a mixer, make a puree out of it and then extract the juice out of it. Now go ahead and massage your scalp with the juice. Let it stand for 10 – 15 minutes after that and then wash kit off with your normal shampoo.

Do this every 3 – 4 days to get the best results.
