The show is set in a remote location in Goa, with two of the major characters being a typewriter and a book.

As Indian web series are finding their real audience in the global streaming platform, Netflix, another haunting thriller is on its way to come up with a story about a ghost and a book. ‘Typewriter’, a horror series that is set in Goa, is set to follow that trail already paved by some brilliant Indian web series such as ‘Sacred Games’, ‘Delhi Crime’, ‘Leila’ and ‘Selection Day’. With its latest trailer being dropped, ‘Typewriter’ gives us an eerie sense of the many mysteries surrounding some of the popular so-called “haunted” places in Goa such as Three Kings’ Church, Ignorchem Bandh, and the infamous Borim Bridge.

As the trailer gives a brief view of what might be in store of the web series, here’s everything you need to know:

Released Date:

‘Typewriter’ is set to release on July 19 on the streaming platform.

Plot:

According to the official synopsis given by Netflix, ‘Typewriter’ is about a haunted house and a haunted book that stir the imagination of a group of young, wannabe ghost hunters, and a dog, determined to capture the ghost that plagues the notorious home in their neighbourhood in Goa. When a new family and their captivating daughter move into the haunted home, the crew finds it difficult to balance the demands of school and chores with the renewed urgency to capture the neighbourhood ghost before it is too late.”

Trailer:

The trailer opens with Purab Kohli’s character telling the story about a family who had moved into Bardez Villa after he is told about a murder close to the place. Soon we see three kids trying to track down a ghost so some unknown reason, and on the other hand, we meet a woman- probably named Jenny- moving into the house with her family. What remains consistent throughout the trailer are the various shots of a typewriter and the clicking sound of the keys as though someone is writing a book; the book being one of the important elements of the story. The trailer does a good job at setting the stage for the upcoming mystery act and introducing us to some of the leading characters on the show.

‘Typewriter’ follows a ghastly tale of three murders and a family.

Cast:

Purab Kohli won many hearts with his character Kedar Zaveri a.k.a. KD/"Killer Drummer", a role which also garnered him a Special Jury Mention at the 2009 Filmfare Awards. His journey with Netflix had already begun with Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski - created Netflix drama, ‘Sense 8’, where his onscreen wife was one of the eight individuals from different parts of the world birthed by the same woman who form a psychic connection, and thus learn about each other’s culture and gain knowledge.

While Kohli dresses as the officer who is in charge of the case, Palomi Ghosh will probably enact the role of Jenny. One of the rare gems of the industry, Ghosh is best known for her roles in international movies such as ‘The Waiting City’ (2009) and ‘Gandhi of the Month’ (2014). She has also won the Certificate of merit for Female Actor at the National Film Awards for her role in the Konkani movie ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ (2015) and the Best Actress award at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival Awards. She, too, had a minor role in the Netflix original series ‘Sense8’, and has acted in Shubhashish Bhutiani’s directorial debut ‘Mukti Bhawan’ alongside Adil Hussain and Geetanjali Kulkarni.

Joining the leading dup will be Samir Kocchar who is presently working with the web series, ‘Sacred Games’, as the character SPI Markand. After making his television debut with the talk show, ‘Dangerous’, that spoke on sex, he was a part of ‘Island City’ directed by Ruchika Oberoi, that received rave reviews at the Venice International Film Festival as well as the JIO MAMI Film Festival 2015 in Mumbai. The other members who will join the leading cast include Arna Sharma (Sam), Aaryansh Malviya (Nick), Milkail Gandhi (Gablu) and Palash Kamble (Bunty), who play the young ghostbusters in the show.

Director:

Other than an off-beat yet extremely talented cast, the stakes remain high for ‘Typewriter’ since it is being directed by the man who gave us one of the most iconic movies of our generation, ‘Kahani’. Debuting with the movie, ‘Jhankaar Beats’ (2003), Ghosh directed several movies among which his most appealing creation continues to remain the 2012 mystery-thriller, ‘Kahaani’ starring Vidya Balan. Although there was a second installation in 2016, ‘Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh’, it hadn’t received as much appreciation as the first installment.

‘Kahaani’ followed a woman’s quest in finding her husband. (IMDb)

Recently he worked on two Royal Stag Large Short Films, ‘Anukul’ (starring Parambrata Chatterjee and Saurabh Shukla) - which followed the tale of a master and his machine who can even kill for the sake of his master- and ‘Ahalya’ (starring Radhika Apte and Soumitra Chatterjee)- an eerie tale about trapping souls in toys. Earlier this year his rendition of the 2017 Spanish film, ‘The Invisible Guest’, ‘Badla’ (starring Tapsee Panu and Amitabh Bachchan) grossed over ₹138.49 crore (US$20 million) worldwide against a production budget of ₹10 crore (US$1.4 million).
