According to Hindu mythology, modak was the favourite food of Lord Ganesha and during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival; people worship the Lord Ganesha and prepare a few sweets to offer to god as a prasad.

There are several different versions of modaks that are available during the festival period. In case you still have not made the preparations of prasad for Lord Ganesha, here are some of the most popular recipes that we have listed for you.

Ukadiche Modak (Traditional Modak Recipe)

Ukadiche Modak’s outer layer is made from rice flour and stuffing is of coconut and jaggery, desi spices like cardamom, nutmeg is added too. Once shaped, they are steamed, and ghee is drizzled over them before offering to god.

Healthy Dry Fruit Modak Recipe

Try sugar-free dry fruit modaks for this festive season! Soak and grind figs and dates, saute the paste of figs and dates in ghee, until the colour darkens.

Saute the grind ground nuts like almonds, cashews, peanuts and pistachios and the healthy seeds like sesame seeds, chironji seeds, khus khus seeds along with desiccated coconut in a separate pan. Add cardamom powder for flavour. Once the mixture cools down, add the mixture in modak moulds and press it to give it the perfect shape.

Chocolate Modak

A fusion version of modak, a must-try for chocolate lovers is made from milk, chocolate chips, condensed milk and biscuit crumbs.

On medium heat stir milk, chocolate chips and condensed milk, until the mixture melts completely and becomes smooth and shiny. Add the biscuit crumbs and chopped pistachios to the mixture. Add the mixture in modak moulds once it cools down.

Coconut Modak (chocolate coated)

An instant, no-cook version made from dry coconut and sweetened condensed milk. Just grease the moulds using ghee and start shaping the modaks. Now dip half portion of the modaks one by one into melted chocolate and let it set in the fridge, before serving.

Rava modak

The outer layer is made from sooji and milk. In low-medium heat dry roast the rava till it starts to change its colour slightly. Remove it to a plate. Now in a pan take milk, add ghee and let the mixture come to a boil.

Once, it starts boiling add roasted sooji immediately, it will come together like a dough. Add the cooked mixture of coconut and jaggery and shape it using the modak moulds.

No further cooking is required, and modaks are ready to be served.
