Former Billboard Top 100 Artist Toby Lightman Set to Release 6th Full Length Album

Brooklyn, NY: Lightman produced and recorded a collection of acoustic songs for her new son.

Former Billboard Top 100 artist Toby Lightman returns with her 6th full length album after taking a break to have her first baby. Lightman produced and recorded this collection of acoustic versions of songs from the 50s/60s/70s while her new son napped nearby.

The album features covers of classics like Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, Marvin Gaye’s How Sweet It Is, and The Beatles’ Blackbird. The focus track of the album is Sam Cooke’s, (What A) Wonderful World.

“Creating this album is one of the highlights of my career,” Lightman said from her in-home studio. “Producing these classic songs all on my own has re-inspired me creatively, and has shown me that I can rise to the challenge of being a singer, songwriter and producer as well as being a new mom.”

Lightman, who broke into the spotlight with her debut album, “Little Things” in 2004, has previously released two albums with Lava / Atlantic Records and four independently with her own T Killa Records.

USA Today once said, “Lightman’s dusky vocals and earthy, groovy vibe invite comparisons to Joan Osborne and Sheryl Crow.”

The 2017 GRAMMY Award Winner for Best Children’s Album Lisa Loeb called the album, "classic."

In speaking to Lightman’s cover of Cooke’s “(What A) Wonderful World,” Loeb said, “Toby’s version is true to the original, but with her own style that really draws you in. Her acoustic style focusing on the lyrics and melody really brings the best out of the song."

Over the years, Lightman has toured with Rob Thomas, Jewel, James Blunt, Gavin DeGraw, Train, Marc Cohn, Marc Broussard, and Prince.

Her music has enjoyed significant television and movie placement which has included “Everyday” on Fox’s Bones, “Holding a Heart” in numerous shows such as WB’s One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries, 90210 as well as the feature film What’s Your Number? “Gone Away” was just recently featured in FX’s Lucifer, “Beautiful Day” in a UK commercial for Hilary Blinds and many more.

A tour to launch the album is in the works with a Mother’s Day Weekend concert scheduled for May 11 at 12:30 p.m. EST at The Loft at City Winery in New York City.
